Labyrinth

In the car park behind Wooler URC you will find an unexpected place of peace, refreshment and Spiritual renewal. In September 2025 we will be opening our labyrinth and prayer garden, and EVERYONE is invited to explore it.

What is a labyrinth?

A Labyrinth is a design which forms a single path leading from the outside to the centre and back again. Unlike a maze there are no dead ends. To journey in and out, all you have to do is to keep on walking, thoughtfully and mindfully. Labyrinth designs date from the earliest times and were carved into rocks, painted or even stitched into fabric. They were a feature of many cathedrals, marked out on the floor, as an invitation to walk and pray as you reflect on where you are in life.

How to walk the labyrinth

Enter the labyrinth and follow the path as it winds its way toward the centre. You may pause in the centre for as long as you wish, then turn and re-trace your steps as you came in, but going in the opposite direction. Your walk may take only a short while or be considerably longer as you stop to pray, meditate, observe or listen. Spend as long as feels right to you, open and responsive. You may choose to walk alone or share the experience with others. Walk thoughtfully at your own pace. If you encounter someone going the other way, one will simply step off the path momentarily to allow the other to pass.

The labyrinth is here for everyone. All are welcome to use this time and space to walk. Whether you have been a Christian for many years or are just beginning your search for something more in life, this is your space to be with God and His space to be with you. Be yourself, be open to God, be honest with Him. There is no rush.
