We’ve some great things going on this Easter. It’s the time of year when Christians celebrate the resurrection of our Lord Jesus and remember His promise and gift of new life to everyone. So do join us as we share this wonderful time together. Here’s some details of what’s going on:
Maundy Thursday, 17 April at 7pm in the Warm Hub:
We share in a Tenebrae service. A Tenebrae service, meaning “shadows,” is a solemn service traditionally held during Holy Week before Easter. The service is characterised by the gradual extinguishing of candles, symbolizing the desertion of Jesus by his disciples and the fading light of his life. Readings from Scripture and music accompany this visual descent into darkness, creating a powerful atmosphere of reflection on Christ’s Passion and death. The service typically concludes in complete darkness and silence, and people leave quietly.
Good Friday, 18 April at 11am in Wooler Market Place:
Christians from across Wooler and Glendale meet by the flower fountain for a short service of witness as we remember Jesus crucifixion. The service is followed by coffee and hot cross buns in St Mary’s Parish Room.
Easter Saturday, 19 April from 10-12 in Wooler URC:
Easter Family fun takes place in the Church. Everyone is invited to bring moss, flowers and plants to help create a fabulous Easter Garden to be displayed at the front of the Church. There’s an Easter Egg Hunt for the younger ones, and refreshments provided. Everyone is welcome!
Easter Sunday, 20 April:
Our main day of celebration starts with a short dawn service at 6am on the Horsdonside footpath. After watching the sunrise, we stroll down to the Warm Hub to enjoy breakfast together and share a service of communion.
Our Easter Morning Service is at 11am in the Church, when we rejoice and celebrate the resurrection. The Easter Garden will be blessed, and we’ll also be welcoming new members into our church. It’s always a wonderful service – do come and join us.
