Fruits of the Spirit
This is the season of Pentecost, the Church festival where we celebrate how the disciples were first given the gift of the Holy Spirit after Jesus ascended to heaven following His resurrection. The Holy Spirit is variously called the ‘Helper’, ‘Advocate’, ‘Comforter’ or Counsellor’ depending on which bible translation you are reading, and Jesus makes His purpose plain. In John 14:26 Jesus says that He “…will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.” He is to be a constant guide and teacher in our walk of faith, and will show us the way to fruitful living.
In his letter to the church in Galatia, Paul describes that fruit that the Holy Spirit produces as “love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.” Over the next few weeks we’re going to be looking at a selection of those fruits of the Spirit.
Do join us as we explore together what how we might live lives that bear more of the Spirit’s fruit.
We meet in person in the Church building at 11am every Sunday, or you can watch our livestream at a time to suit you. Just follow the links at the bottom of the page.
Welcome to Wooler URC!
Our church is a worshipping community of people from different backgrounds and many varied walks of life. Everyone is welcome here! Every Sunday we meet together in church and online to learn more about Jesus and sing praises to God. There are also opportunities to carry our lifelong journey of learning into the week with our Bible studies and morning prayers. Have a look at our Church Life page which gives more details. We believe that part of the calling of our church is to use our time and resources to serve our community in whatever way we can. We are all made in God’s image, and by serving each other we are also serving Him. Fliss Barker is our Community Minister, and amongst many other things she runs our Warm Welcome project which provides a welcoming space for anyone to use. We continue to pray for our community, and life in all its fullness. If you would like someone to talk with you or pray for you, do get in touch. You can phone or text us on the number above, email us, or click on the ‘I would like prayer…’ button below
