To the best of my knowledge, I’ve never held a sword, or at least, not a real one. If I did, I really wouldn’t know how to handle it or how to use it properly – I’d probably be more of a danger to myself than any enemy I might confront! To be of any use, I would have to practice with it. It would help to have someone to teach and encourage me, to show me what to do, to answer my questions and demonstrate the best technique.
In our last look at Paul’s description of the armour of God, he describes the word of God as the ‘sword of the Spirit’. I’ve held a bible, but I wonder if I am more proficient with that than any other sword? Perhaps to use that more effectively also needs practice, encouragement, and demonstration?
